COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
CSE’s Community Engagement initiative provides space for engaging conversation, fun family activities and community service opportunities so that iVillagers feel empowered, recognize and share their unique talents, and garner social power to lead their community towards a more equitable destiny. This process is catalyzed further when iVillagers expose the greater community to their stories which results in external commitments to the iVillage well-being.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
CSE’s Economic Development Initiative works to link collaborators with skills, talent, knowledge and resources to iVillage individual and group-led business creators and developers seeking to supply unmet needs in the community. Further, CSE works to attract businesses to the area for job creation in manufacturing, warehousing, distribution or any other viable industry.
EDUCATION
CSE’s Education Initiative creates a child-centered, culturally-responsive learning environment where each child’s strengths and learning styles are understood, valued and celebrated, where understanding and mutual respect are fundamental. It creates a robust atmosphere where children are exposed to innovative teaching methods from robotics to podcasting, where they are excited to learn and collaborate. In the iVillage, we value and encourage parental engagement and advocacy recognizing parents as the child’s first and most important teacher, yet acknowledging that we each play a role in each child’s positive development.
Health
CSE’s Health initiative seeks to address the social determinants of health so that every iVillager enjoys mental, physical and social health and well-being.
HOUSING
CSE’s Housing Initiative seeks to create a safe, healthy, diverse, affordable community valued by iVillagers and in which others want to live. Objectives include finding socially conscious private investors to purchase and renovate abandoned houses, some then selling to iVillagers at a reduced price, others renting to local collegians, others allowing renters to accrue equity over their lease term enabling renters to purchase the house at a reduced, affordable price. In addition, CSE encourages investors to make green and healthy home improvements, such as weatherization, lead paint removal and solar power. This initiative is further supported by neighborhood clean-up campaigns and housing repair funds.
